Detox & Relief

Introduction to Addiction

Across the nation, approximately 10,000 individuals a day start misusing prescription drugs with nearly 6 in 10 misusing opioids. Most commonly abused prescription opioids include oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine. Prescription opioid misuse and abuse of illegal opioid drugs, like heroin and fentanyl, following prescription abuse are especially dangerous because of the underlying medical conditions that they can cover. Prescription opioids are meant to treat pain and when the medication is abused, it can mask worsening symptoms and create more pain, leading to increased use.

Introduction & Overview of Detoxification

A phenomenon, not unique to opioids, that enhances addiction is called tolerance. Tolerance is when the body becomes accustomed to the amount of drug being put into its system and starts to require more for the euphoric effects it initially creates. This is a tell-tale sign that drug misuse is turning into dependence and addiction.

Opioid misuse and abuse in California have resulted in over 5,300 overdose deaths in 2020. This is over twice the rate of opioid deaths reported in 2018. 3,800 of the 2020 related deaths are attributable to fentanyl. This synthetic opioid is over 80 times more potent than morphine and in high doses is nonresponsive to Narcan/Naloxone.

What Is Detoxification?

Detoxification should always be medically monitored as withdrawal symptoms can be dangerous depending on how an individual initiates the detoxification process. Those who choose to quit substances ‘cold turkey’ may experience more extreme withdraw, while those who ween off of a drug may experience more risk in taking the drug, but fewer withdrawal symptoms over a longer period of time.

Individuals going through opiate withdrawal may experience:

  • Agitation
  • Anxiety
  • Muscle aches
  • Increased tearing
  • Insomnia
  • Runny nose
  • Sweating
  • Yawning
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Diarrhea
  • Dilated pupils
  • Goosebumps
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Withdraw symptoms usually being within 12-30 hours of last use and can last up to a week. Anything symptoms lasting longer than a week are typically emotional or behavioral.

The final symptom of withdrawal that can nullify the whole process, is cravings. Individuals who experience cravings and are not medically monitored by a professional, may use again and need to restart the detoxification.

What Is a Rapid Detox Center?

Rapid opiate detox is an intense medical process that utilizes IV medication and intravenous doses of opioid antagonists which assist the body in flushing the opiates out. Rapid detoxification can be done through an inpatient or outpatient process with different uses.

Inpatient rapid detox often includes some medical sedation that increases the speed of withdrawal down to approximately two days. In an inpatient setting, clients are placed under sedation and placed into an induced coma to undergo withdrawal over a 48-hour period. This process can be medically challenging for the body and can leave clients feeling rundown and overwhelmed.

Outpatient rapid opioid detoxification occurs daily over the course of a week and involves 24-hour supervision split between medical professionals at the detox center and a trusted loved one to support you on the off-hours. Individuals who choose this process are often attached to medical IVs for 4-8 hours a day for at least three days.

While rapid opioid detox centers provide a valuable option for individuals struggling with addiction withdrawal symptoms, they do not have higher sobriety rates than other detoxification centers. They also don’t cure addiction; it is recommended that individuals who go through rapid opiate detox in California attend a follow-up residential inpatient treatment program, partial hospitalization, or intensive outpatient program following this medical process.

What To Expect From a Rapid Opiate Detox Center in California

Rapid opiate detox centers in California follow both the inpatient and outpatient model, with a higher number of luxury rapid detox centers following an outpatient model.

California rapid detox centers work with individuals who need to detox from opioids in a short amount of time. While it does provide relief from some of the acute withdrawal symptoms associated with detoxification, there can be some remaining symptoms.

Undergoing rapid opiate detox in California through an outpatient facility means that a client will go to the facility for 4-8 hours every day to undergo medical IV injections of drugs meant to flush the toxic opiates from his system. Individuals may sleep through this process or may be up and moving around the facility, though rest is recommended.

Our Beverly Hills Detox Program

At Total RMH, our Beverly Hills detox program focuses on the ideas of relief, repair, recovery, and rebuilding to provide clients with fully comprehensive addiction treatment.

Our rapid opiate detox is meant to provide relief from the symptoms of withdrawal. Our process utilizes a special combination of IV medical drips and glutathione to activate brain and muscle response, non-opioid medications that block cravings, and NAD+ to help cell regeneration and promotes DNA repair. This process is designed to reduce discomfort and anxiety.

Our outpatient detox program typically lasts three days and individuals are able to stay at home or in a hotel overnight. Throughout our relief program, clients are continuously monitored either at the facility by our medical professionals or at home by a trusted loved one. This process takes motivation and dedication.

But, we don’t just leave you with the momentary relief of rapid detox; at Total RMH, we believe that the rest of the process (repair, recovery, and rebuilding) are just as important.

Following relief, our repair program utilizes IV therapies to support clients in their continued detoxification. As the toxins are thoroughly flushed from the body, individuals may notice through this correction process, they experience less of the effects of substance abuse and are able to focus on restoring proper brain function. This addiction process typically lasts 5-10 days after the initial relief process.

Once an individual has relief and has given their body an opportunity to begin repairing itself, the recovery process begins. Through our outpatient program, this process typically takes 6 months and focuses on minimizing cravings, boosting energy levels, and increasing possibilities and opportunities for success. The recovery period utilizes in-person and telehealth counseling sessions and medical injections to block cravings and/or reduce continued withdrawal symptoms.

Finally, we focus on rebuilding. We want all our clients to have the opportunity to rebuild their life into something they are proud of. Through continued and supportive aftercare, our clients can take steps to ensure a bright, happy, and sober future.

Through our Beverly Hills detox program, we work with all our clients to ensure their sustainable recovery.
